GUIDE TO GRADUATE SCHOOL RESEARCH ASSISTANTSHIPS: Articles with Advice & Tips for Research Assistantships for Masters Degree Programs.
NRAO Summer Student Research Assistantships - The National Radio Astronomy Observatory provides state-of-the-art radio telescope facilities for use by scientists from around the world. We are also involved in cutting edge astronomical research, and in the design, development and manufacture of radio astronomy instrumentation and telescopes; NRAO receivers are deployed from the South Pole to beyond the Moon. Research Assistantship - These assistantships cover tuition and provide a stipend for living expenses. Applicants are primarily selected based on their GPA; TOEFL score, GRE score, recommendations, and expressed interest in carrying out research work. Research assistants are required to have a TOEFL score of greater than 600. It is imperative that they speak and write English well. Although a GRE score is not required, it is highly recommended.
Graduate Research Assistantships - The Earth System Science and Policy Program is the academic component of UND's Northern Great Plains Center for People and the Environment. The Center also has an active research program, fully externally funded. The research is tightly integrated with the academic program.
Researching Your Options - Evaluating a research assistantship can be daunting, but the opportunity is well worth the effort
Summer Research Assistantship Program - The National Solar Observatory (NSO) announces the availability of a limited number of summer research assistantships for well-qualified graduate students. The NSO is operated by the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy, Inc. under cooperative agreement with the NSF. The Observatory has two sites - one at Tucson, AZ and the other at Sunspot, NM - with facilities and on-going research programs in solar physics, solar-terrestrial physics, solar-stellar physics and instrumentation. Each summer intern will work on a specific research project in close collaboration with a scientific staff mentor at one of the two NSO sites. Research programs will emphasize data reduction and analysis, computer programming, instrumentation, or theoretical modeling. In addition to research experiences, summer activities will include a number of social events and excursions, and interactions with other NSO and NOAO summer students and visitors.
Research Assistantship - Students can be appointed as research assistants on a faculty member's grant for up to 50% time per quarter. This appointment carries with it the benefit of a stipend and tuition allowance.
Undergraduate Teaching and Research Assistantships - I acquired research laboratory skills. By exploring scientific uknowns, I exercised my problem solving skills as a scientist and witnessed the variability that often occurs during experimental applications. I think UTRAs provide a unique opportunity for undergraduates to experience first-hand research with faculty members. I hope that UTRAs will continue to be available to students long after I graduate.
Teaching/Research Assistantships - Assistantships carry a monthly compensatory stipend for services rendered, include activities that are relevant to each student’s own program of study, and contribute to ASU's teaching and research effort. Each department publishes assistantship opportunities. Assistants must be enrolled for a minimum of six credit hours each semester (audit hours do not count towards the six hour minimum); appointments can range from ten to twenty hours a week. Stipend amounts can vary according to the responsibilities of the position. Students who are nonresidents and hold an assistantship pay tuition at the resident rate.
Dana Research Assistantship - What is a Dana Research Assistantship?: The "New Danas" allows faculty members to hire individual students to assist in faculty scholarly and creative research. In order to open up research opportunities for students earlier in their college careers, and at the same time to further faculty research, students will be hired in substantive roles as research assistants. The New Dana program does not expect the student assistant to take on a co-investigator role. The New Dana Student Research Assistantship program is designed to complement existing opportunities for collaborative student-faculty research, which continue to be funded under the rubrics of HHMI and student-faculty research.
Dissertation Research Assistantship Award - Dissertation research assistantship awards are designed for superior students who are in the dissertation preparation stage of their graduate education. Selection is based on a competition primarily considering the student's academic research and quality of the dissertation prospectus. Students who plan to start their dissertations by the end of the fall semester (advanced to candidacy, completed preliminary examinations, and completed most of their course work and research tools) may apply for the assistantship award during the preceding spring semester. A recipient of a dissertation research assistantship award must be officially admitted to candidacy by the end of the semester in which the award begins. The award is for a maximum of 11 months and provides a monthly stipend and a tuition scholarship.
Research Assistantships - Many professors are able to provide Research Assistantships (RA) from their research grants to support full-time graduate students studying under their direction. The duties constitute part of the student's graduate degree requirements. Research Assistantships are co-ordinated and administered at the graduate program level. The stipend amounts vary widely, and are dependent on the field of study and the type of research grant from which the assistantship is being funded.
Research Assistantships - Research assistantships (RA) are monthly payments from a professor's grants or contracts. Normally, these payments are made only to M.A.Sc. or Ph.D. students working under the direct supervision of the professor. The amount of any research assistantship is specified in the offer of admission and is subject to satisfactory progress in the research and academic program. A student may be required to perform some duties not directly connected with the research assistantship as a condition of the RA payment, e.g. maintenance of the laboratory, training other students on the use of laboratory equipment.
Research Assistantships -The Graduate Research Assistantship Program at Kennesaw State University is designed to provide an opportunity for a graduate student to work closely with a graduate faculty member on projects related to the student's major field of study.
MERInstitute Research Assistantships Program - The MERInstitute sponsors up to five (5) assistantships each year for graduate students interested in participating in research conducted by GMAC®.
