Financial Assistance for Graduate Students -There are many financial resources to assist with graduate study at Michigan State University. You should begin to explore these well before you arrive at Michigan State, especially using scholarship search services on the web. Have Forms of Primary Financial Support for S&E Graduate Students Changed During the Past Two Decades  - The nation's research universities have traditionally coupled advanced education with research—in the process generating new knowledge as well as training scientific and engineering talent. This close coupling is reflected in the variety of forms in which financial support is provided to science and engineering (S&E) graduate students. Concerns have been raised about the role of different types of financial support modes in preparing science and engineering students for employment and about the appropriate mix of support.[1] It would therefore be useful to examine how forms of support for S&E graduate students have changed during the past two decades.

Earn While You Learn - Departments will often award applicants sizable Assistantships in order to entice them to enroll. Some positions waive tuition fees, while others offer a monetary award and special privileges.

Fellowships - What can they do for you? - One of the most important parts of the college experience is making friends and connecting with others in a stimulating environment. This holds true in graduate school, too. But this time around, you may find a fellowship can really be a student's best buddy.

Financial Assistance and Tuition Scholarships - On application for admission to graduate studies each student who so indicates is considered for financial aid. There are three main forms of financial support: Teaching or Graduate Assistantships, provided by state funds for lines allotted to the department, Research Assistantships provided by research grants held by individual faculty members, and Graduate Fellowships provided by state funds administered by the Graduate School. Potential new graduate students applying for admission are mainly eligible for Teaching Assistantships on which the decisions are made by the Graduate Studies Committee of the department.

Financial Assistance  - Students in need of financial assistance during their graduate study at the University of Georgia have three possible avenues for funding. The majority of financial aid is provided in the form of graduate assistantships which carry a stipend. Such assistantships are awarded annually on a competitive basis to qualified graduate students and they require part-time teaching, research, or other academic duties defined by their department. Assistantships are normally awarded on a one-third basis or higher. One-third time indicates that the student must work 13 hours per week in the awarding unit, normally their department.

Financial Assistance, Awards and Scholarships: Information for All Students  - The University of Toronto is committed to providing financial support to students. For students who are assessed by the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) or by another Canadian provincial government financial aid program as requiring maximum assistance, and whose assessed need is not fully covered by government aid, the University will ensure that the full need is met. For every new and returning student, the University examines the OSAP (or other Canadian provincial government financial aid program) assessment in the Fall term and identifies all students who qualify for grants through the University of Toronto Advance Planning for Students (UTAPS) program. The University writes to students directly to notify them of their eligibility. For students in second-entry programs, including Dentistry, the additional assistance may be a mix of grant and loan.

Financial Aid  - The Bard Center for Environmental Policy is committed to assisting qualified students whose personal financial resources are insufficient to meet the expenses of grad-uate study. A limited number of fellowships are available. Financial aid is awarded on the basis of achievement and promise as well as financial need, according to criteria determined annually by the Office of Financial Aid of Bard College and the student's Application for Admission. Awards are made without regard to sex, sexual orientation, race, color, age, marital status, religion, ethnic or national origin, or handicapping conditions.

Sources of Financial Assistance  - The Graduate School offers University of Colorado fellowships, diversity fellowships, chancellor's graduate fellowships, and Colorado graduate need grants.

What Do I Do Now? Graduate Teaching & Research Assistantships - Haven't received an assistantship offer yet? Don't panic. If you are persistent enough, you might be able to get a GTA or GRA offer in the second round.

Financial Assistance - The University's Office of Student Financial Aid administers federal, state and institutional financial aid programs, including long-term loans and work opportunities. Work-study positions are available throughout the campus and offer competitive wages. Loan support (including emergency loans) is available in limited amounts through this office as well. The Department of Economics does not offer loan support.

Assistantships: Staying Ahead of the Game - Approaching assistantships early with the same tenacity that you would when researching graduate schools can give you the one-up on others. It is not too early for you to start inquiring about options or to start planning these placements while submitting your application package.

Students in the PhD program are guaranteed a minimum financial package of $17,464 per year for 4 years. MA students in Comparative Literature and Spanish are normally offered a Teaching Assistantship (worth $9,464 for the 8-month academic year 2003-04) and a Special University Scholarship (currently worth $5,000 per year).

(Note: PhD students at Schulich fall under the faculty category "Faculty of Graduate Studies" in the fees table. Students must register in each of the three terms during the year (including summer).
